Dropkick Murphys
Biography
Dropkick Murphy's started out in Quincy, Massachusetts first playing in a small basement of a friends barbershop. They would mix up traditional Irish folk with punk rock. The name Dropkick Murphy's come from an old rehab center in Boston. As said by former front man Mike McCoglan and co- founder Ken Casey:"We always heard of old-timers in our neighborhood telling war stories about being locked up at Dropkick Murphy's, so we decided that if we ever started a band, that would be the name."
Shortly after this first album release in 1997 lead singer Mike McColgan left the band to pursue his dream of becoming a firefighter. In 1999 they would release the follow up album The Gangs All Here by new front man Al Barr of the Bruisers. And in 2001 the third album Sing Loud, Sing Proud! 2003 saw the release of blackout with the warped tour and single Boston Red Sox anthem Tessie. 2005 The warrior's Code was released on Epitaph Records with "I'm shipping up to Boston." was used in the 2006 Academy Award winning movie The Departed. And in 2007 the bands sixth album The meanest of Times was released.
